Kinky Friedman for Governor 2006
Those of you in Texas should know what I’m talking about, and this post is aimed mostly at you. Let’s give the Republican and Democratic parties a message this fall and vote for independence. If Jesse Ventura can win in Minnesota, then Kinky can certainly win in Texas. Regardless of who you vote for, get out and VOTE!
For the rest of the world, Kinky is one of the independent candidates for Texas Governor this fall and one of the more escentric characters I’ve seen run for office.

Pahrump Valley Times - Nye County’s Largest Newspaper Circulation
The Methodists of Dallas can be fairly sure that none of them will be snatched off the streets, flown to Guantanamo, stripped naked, forced to stand for 48 hours in a freezing room with deafening noise, so why should they worry? It’s only the Jews who are in danger, and the homosexuals and gypsies. The Christians are doing just fine. If you can’t trust a Methodist with absolute power to arrest people and not have to say why, then whom can you trust?
Please, Garrison, do not judge all Methodists the same. There are plenty of them, even here in Texas, who fear for the freedoms we have enjoyed and the ideals that our founding fathers promoted. While GW claims to be a Methodist, his words would lead me to believe he’s of a more pentacostal slant and his actions tell me he has no regard for religion or Jesus.

Right after revealing that Foley was better known as FFF, or Foley Fag from Florida they show a headshot of him labeled a Democrat. That’s right folks, if they can’t spin a Republican story to the Right, then they blame the Dems. Fortunately there’s enough other stories running about how Foley’s replacement is screwed in the election simply because it’ll be Foley’s name on the ballot and not what’s his name. Oh, and his replacement is a Republican, just like Foley.
Let’s just hope that some of the crimes stick and he gets a little taste of the witch hunt he was spear heading with his hypocracy.
While I’m ranting, can anyone explain to Newt, that reporting a crime is NOT gay bashing? I’m also curious why the GOP is suddenly afraid of gay bashing. They’ve certainly done enough of it with in their election campaigns and votes.

informationliberation - Torture Bill States Non-Allegiance To Bush Is Terrorism
Buried amongst the untold affronts to the Bill of Rights, the Constitution and the very spirit of America, the torture bill contains a definition of “wrongfully aiding the enemy” which labels all American citizens who breach their “allegiance” to President Bush and the actions of his government as terrorists subject to possible arrest, torture and conviction in front of a military tribunal.
Does this mean that this post is an act of terrorism?
I promise I’ll try to find something geeky or cheerful to post about this evening. But for the time being I’ll just drink a beer and lament the loss of our freedom and democracy.

The Free Press — Independent News Media - Election Issues
Ohio election protection activists have won a landmark court battle to preserve the ballots from 2004’s disputed presidential election, and researchers studying those ballots continue to find new evidence that the election was, indeed, stolen. Among other things, large numbers of consecutive votes in different precincts for George W. Bush make it appear ever more likely that the real winner in 2004 should have been John Kerry. Meanwhile, indictments and prison terms are mounting among key players in that tainted contest.
Bush’s Faustian Deal With the Taliban –May 22, 2001
Enslave your girls and women, harbor anti-U.S. terrorists, destroy every vestige of civilization in your homeland, and the Bush administration will embrace you. All that matters is that you line up as an ally in the drug war, the only international cause that this nation still takes seriously.
That’s the message sent with the recent gift of $43 million to the Taliban rulers of Afghanistan, the most virulent anti-American violators of human rights in the world today. The gift, announced last Thursday by Secretary of State Colin Powell, in addition to other recent aid, makes the U.S. the main sponsor of the Taliban and rewards that “rogue regime” for declaring that opium growing is against the will of God. So, too, by the Taliban’s estimation, are most human activities, but it’s the ban on drugs that catches this administration’s attention.
So Bush gave the Taliban $43 million 4 months before 9/11. How much of that money went to fund the attacks on the US?

Griper Blade: Remember When Everyone Thought Torture was Evil?
In the US, however, the right seems to have been taken over, to a certain degree, by big torture fans. Oddly, the religious right has weighed in in favor of torture.
I first heard the case of Maher Arar on NPR on the way home today. This is sickening to think the Bush, a so called Christian, is allowing, or even ordering this kind of torture to happen. Is it any wonder that the rest of the world looks on America with contempt?
Can anyone do anything to right things for Maher?

J. D. Harper: The Official Blog » Blog Archive » Preaching Politics
Here is the primary reason that evangelical churches should not push politics from either side of the aisle: The goal of the church is to get as many people saved as possible and to get those people to follow Christ’s teachings to the best of their ability. But when the preacher starts, say, praising the war in Iraq, people who oppose the war are instantly turned off from the whole message. At best, it’s a distraction from the gospel. At worst, the people who oppose the war reject the gospel along with your politics. In other words, people are going to hell because you wouldn’t stop promoting your politics from the pulpit.

Ethanol
David Pimental, a leading Cornell University agricultural expert, has calculated that powering the average U.S. automobile for one year on ethanol (blended with gasoline) derived from corn would require 11 acres of farmland, the same space needed to grow a year’s supply of food for seven people. Adding up the energy costs of corn production and its conversion into ethanol, 131,000 BTUs are needed to make one gallon of ethanol. One gallon of ethanol has an energy value of only 77,000 BTUS. Thus, 70 percent more energy is required to produce ethanol than the energy that actually is in it. Every time you make one gallon of ethanol, there is a net energy loss of 54,000 BTUs.
I know a lot of people who’ve been claiming this for years. Hopefully more people will realize that ethanol (and in my opinion hydrogen too) are not viable long term solutions to our dependence on oil unless we find a much more efficient way to product them.
