Can You Spot The Phish Attack?

Can You Spot The Phish Attack?

According to data from e-mail security firm MailFrontier, only 4 percent of users can spot a phished e-mail 100 percent of the time. That’s a very sobering thought as the holiday season is upon us and Americans flock online for their shopping needs.

I just took the survey and can certainly see why only 4% of the people scored 100%.

Question 9 is very misleading. They claim that it’s a legit email from Capital One, yet their own screenshot displays a hover url of “http://capitalone.bfi0.com/TR5711904A7DB234A341155000″.

Why would Capital One use bfi0.com to send out statement emails?

bfi0.com is registered to a company in New York called: “Interactive Inc., Bigfoot” and has no obvious tie to Capital One. Navigating to bfi0.com and capitalone.bfi0.com both return an empty page.

Less as a competitive advantage: My 10 minutes at Web 2.0 - Signal vs. Noise (by 37signals)

One of the better articles I’ve read on 37 signals. Wish I’d read this when we were starting murl.com.

The truth is this: There are a million simple problems that need to be solved before you should even consider trying to solve the complex ones. Less software solves simpler problems. Let your competitors kill themselves trying to solve the big complex problems. Solving those problems are really hard, really expensive, and riddled with bad odds. Stay simple, build simple, and solve simple.

SimpleBits | The Penny

SimpleBits | The Penny

The penny’s worth has reached such a horrible low, that I’ve stopped bending over to pick them up. If I mistakenly drop a penny, I’ll pause for second to consider the effort that’s involved in picking it up, then realize that the amount of time I’ve spent contemplating its retrieval has probably already surpassed the value of the penny itself.

Spam Stock Tracker - tracking how much money people can lose with penny stocks from spam.

A total loss of $8,117.10 at this time. The comentary is pretty well written too.

I have many more stocks to add but I think the point is proven by the many stocks emailed to me through spam that I added in a short few weeks I did this. I am keeping this site up for reference to those who may be so interested in just what would happen if you invest in the stocks mentioned in junk email. The prices are current and the running loss is also current, I am just not adding more penny stocks to the test.

Wisconsin State Quarter Error

eBay: 2004 Wisconsin State Quarter ERROR Low Down Leaf (item 8340281921 end time Oct-07-05 20:06:17 PDT)

I received this Wisconsin quarter as change for a pack of gum a month ago. I’m finally getting around to posting it on ebay.

There are two variations of the errors, and you can find a bit more info here: http://www.knightcoin.com/wi-error.htm
http://coincollector.org/archives/002357.html
http://www.snopes.com/business/money/quarter.asp

Here’s a picture of the quarter I found with an arrow pointing at the error. The other error is similar, the extra “leaf” is just a little higher and usually intersects the real leaf.

Urban Legends Reference Pages: Business (Anatomically Correct Change)

<sarcasm>
OMG, the bison has a prepuce tassel, what if the children see it on the nickel and ask embarassing questions? Heaven forbid that we be honest with our children on all things natural.
</sarcasm>

Claim: U.S. buffalo nickels are being recalled because the bison depicted is anatomically correct.

Status: False.

How to Make a Million Dollars, by Marshall Brain

Interesting, but somehow obvious presention about getting rich.

How to make a million dollars is: a) something students are interested in, and b) something I am qualified to talk about. And the talk went really well. So well, in fact, that I have received requests for copies of the presentation.

Dimes20Must20Die

Hahahaha. The picture MUST be moused over.

Dimes are the stupidest form of currency ever invented. This web site0A is dedicated to my utter hatred for Dimes. My goal is to eliminate Dimes0A from society. I ask that you send me all your Dimes so that I can use0A them to fund an anti-Dime movement.

The U.S. Mint - Westward Journey Nickel

The United States Mint

James got one of these nickels as change from Starbucks today. I think this is the most impressive one in the special coins so far.

In commemoration of the bicentennials of the Louisiana Purchase and the Lewis and Clark expedition, the President enacted Public Law 108-15 to modify the Jefferson 5-cent coin (nickel) to reflect images evocative of the historic expedition into the Louisiana Territory.
