Upside-Down-Ternet

Upside-Down-Ternet

One of the better internet pranks I’ve seen in a while. This could be fun to do with a corporate squid account too.

My neighbours are stealing my wireless internet access. I could encrypt it or alternately I could have fun.

18 Tricks to Teach Your Body - Men’s Health - MSN Health & Fitness

1. If your throat tickles, scratch your ear.

When you were 9, playing your armpit was a cool trick. Now, as an adult, you can still appreciate a good body-based feat, but you’re more discriminating. Take that tickle in your throat; it’s not worth gagging over. Here’s a better way to scratch your itch: “When the nerves in the ear are stimulated, it creates a reflex in the throat that can cause a muscle spasm,” says Scott Schaffer, M.D., president of an ear, nose and throat specialty center in Gibbsboro, New Jersey. “This spasm relieves the tickle.”

Ten Dollar Digital Camera

TenDollarDigitalCamera - ElephantStaircase

Another great article on hacking a cheap disposable digital camera. I’m going to get one of these soon to make a waterproof camera for kayaking.

Turn a “disposable” 10 dollar digital camera from RitzCamera, CVS, or Walgreens into one you can use over and over, just like a normal digital camera.

Most digital cameras are expensive so you don’t want to take them places they might get wet, muddy, lost or broken. With this cheap digital camera you can get decent pictures and take it with you wherever you go without having to worry about losing it or breaking it.

The Japanese Case Mod

The Japanese Case Mod

Very cool casemod.

“Sangaku” (which in Japanese translates to “mathematics tablet”) is the synthesis of my passion for furniture making and my fascination with computers, and this is my first try at modding a computer. I was disappointed with most of the wood cases I’ve seen and thought I could make an improvement.

DIY Digital Stereo Camera - Disposable Digital Camera Hack

TeamDroid » DIY Digital Stereo Camera

I think this hack could be done a bit better by wiring the camera shutters together and reloacting the flashes to reduce overexposure and red-eye problems.

On a side note, CVS had their disposable camera with preview LCD on sale this week for $20.

When I first saw the Dakota disposable cameras at a locals camera store I knew I’d be buying a few so I could make a camera that only exists in my dreams, a digital stereo camera.

DOF depth of field using 35mm lenses

DOF depth of field using 35mm lenses

Probably not a project I’m going to try, but it might be interesting to any of you digital film makers out there.

Some people think that the major technical difference between shooting video and shooting 35mm film is a progressive scan or 24fps. But that’s not true, the most visible and obvious difference is shallow/deep DOF. If our scene is a close-up of person in front of a building, video will have most of the scene in good focus. 35mm film will show face in sharp focus and the building behind will be blurred.

WonderlandChristmas.com - Wizards of Winter

Evidently some people thought the Christmas lights syncronized to “Wizard in Winter” were fake. The creator has made the Light-O-Rama sequence available and gives a brief tutorial on how to set it up. I was surprised to find that the hobbyist boards were somewhat inexpensive at the low price of $185 each.

If you are doubter, or just want to learn more about this video, feel free to follow the instructions below. It will show you the program in action, and how the display was really built.

Can You Spot The Phish Attack?

Can You Spot The Phish Attack?

According to data from e-mail security firm MailFrontier, only 4 percent of users can spot a phished e-mail 100 percent of the time. That’s a very sobering thought as the holiday season is upon us and Americans flock online for their shopping needs.

I just took the survey and can certainly see why only 4% of the people scored 100%.

Question 9 is very misleading. They claim that it’s a legit email from Capital One, yet their own screenshot displays a hover url of “http://capitalone.bfi0.com/TR5711904A7DB234A341155000″.

Why would Capital One use bfi0.com to send out statement emails?

bfi0.com is registered to a company in New York called: “Interactive Inc., Bigfoot” and has no obvious tie to Capital One. Navigating to bfi0.com and capitalone.bfi0.com both return an empty page.

MyPartyPost- Video Clip- Best Christmas Lights Display Ever

Just wow.

This has to be the raddest display of Christmas lights I have ever seen. Timing the lights to a cool track of music, this house does a light show just in time for the holidays.
