n# » A strange way to dramatically speed up Windows XP

1. Right click my computer, select properties
2. Click the ‘Advanced’ tab
3. Under performance, click Settings
4. Click the ‘Advanced’ tab
5. Click ‘change’ under Virtual memory
6. Make a note of the existing swap files
7. Set the current swap file to a very small size e.g. 2mb
8. Restart the PC, and resize the swap file back to its original size Initial Size equal to the 1.5 to 2.0 times your physical RAM from a comment below
9. Restart the PC once more

I’m not generally a windows user, but this quick tip helped speed up my wife’s machine significantly. All for the low cost of a couple reboots. It’s crazy that it works, but it definitely did. There’s a LOT less disk thrashing when opening MS Word or Access and even Bejeweled runs faster.
