Orbicule | Undercover, Software to Recover a Stolen Mac

Orbicule | Undercover

This is a cool idea. Once the software sees your laptop is stolen (by checking with the Orbicule server) it starts sending screen shots and IP information back to the service. Eventually it will start simulating hardware errors and urge the thief to take it in for service. I didn’t see a mention if they will take advantage of the camera built into the new books, but I imagine they will.

Many people we know have had their Macs stolen, often in ’safe’ situations. That’s why we developed Undercover: a unique theft-recovery application designed from the ground up for Mac OS X.

  1. Yeah, seems failsafe.

From now on, I keep my iBook outside.

  2. Robert,

Thanks for the info. It doesn’t look as cool now that someone’s actually peeked under the hood.
